In speaking with him, he has enough to say about the way Zenith thinks about us as Meridians that make me wonder if we cannot come back from the wedge they wish to drive between us as a result. We have made aggressive moves, and we are predominantly an aggressive Faction — however, my experiences before the Oracle's challenge and during it make me wonder about the innate balance of the world.
My goals remain aligned with Meridian, and I cannot wait to be shut of this place. However, there remain threats to all of Kenos that cannot be resolved by Meridian or Zenith alone. At least until the end, we must be able to work together when not at war. So, I asked Childe if he thought Zenith might be amenable to receiving Meridian ambassadors. He told me no, likely not right now. But. This is your forte, is it not?
[ah yes, another sketchy church... why is it always churches...
There's a small pause while Claude turns all of this over in his mind, before responding.]
I think some of them might be more amenable than others. I'm talking to a bunch of Zenith right now, away from all the Meridian hostility, and I'd say there's plenty of open discussion with a sprinkling of distrust towards me, or towards Meridian in general.
It's a good starting point, right? We soured things with the invasion, but they won the Oracle, so I get the feeling that from their perspective, we've sort of broken even. Or, I suppose they think they're ahead, for those who care about the Oracles.
Regardless, I think now is a good time to try to build bridges, and nip all this Meridian talk of killing in the bud before it escalates. So yeah, why not consider ambassadors? It's a good idea.
[The feeling of him actually being both surprised but impressed with Set is palpable. This is hardly his forte, but he's trying all the same.]
— perhaps, if we can at least play into the perception of them being "ahead", they will at least be more agreeable to hear the proposition out. Above all else, repairing our cities and assisting the people who place their faith in our goals ought to be important. We cannot divide ourselves and do that alone.
Alenroux was occupied and settled by Meridian, and our efforts have made safe havens and controlled the spread of monsters. I enhance their crops by the week, to ensure they will have ample yield. It could be a good place to invite the displaced citizens of both locations, so they feel it is still "theirs". [ even if it's HIS!!! ]
We could begin there, at a point of contention and concern that is not related to the Oracle.
[There's a feeling of agreement from Claude, but the mention of those three names soon diverts his attention.]
Liem must've been through some harrowing stuff to end up where he did in the manner that he did. [Which is a very polite way of phrasing 'Hayame fuckin killed him'.] Rudbeckia is a bag of nerves, and I think she's convinced Meridian all hate her now and that she's an awful person. Minegishi Gen... He's grouchy? I'm pretty sure he's always like that, though.
I don't know if anyone on Zenith's side is looking out for any of them, but I'm sure at least two of them could use some support.
I do not know what happened to drive Liem into Zenith's embrace, but I know enough of Ruby and Gen's motives.
[ Hayame had dedicated Liem's death to him, after all. She had taken the violence she had done, and passed it onto him to share.
He does prickle, at the mere suggestion that others within Zenith might not be looking after them — that all three of them are alone in a crowded room — !! ]
I will see to them myself, if I must. They will not languish alone, even if they come to DARE think they can exist apart from me!
[ thanks claude this is probably why he actually hunts all three of these people down over the month wtf?? ]
[ absolutely zenith will take care of their own!! set's just possessive... dumb idiot man ]
I suppose, I will seek them regardless. Wherever they go, I did vow to remain within their reach. Even in the wake of our difficult struggles, I need them to know it was truth.
[ not just said in the heat of miserable communion and pain ]
communion; probably during meri!communion even.
[ ugh diplomacy
but also, uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhghhhhhhhhhh he's gotta propose something ]
